Slammer 0.9.6 Beta

Slammer 0.9.6 Beta is out. A few bug fixes. But what I want to talk about is the new feature.

Slammer 0.9.6 beta contains an experimental new feature. You can command+click(not right click) and drag to measure the distance between two points. If there is an elevation, it will also give you the angle, base width and height apart from the distance. Neat, isn’t it?

But why is it experimental? Apart from the fact that the drawing itself needs a lot of polish, I am still figuring out how to make this accessible. Command+Click is not that great because if you drag the mouse in a hurry before command is pressed the window will move. There are a few options I am toying with including a “measurement mode” that puts Slammer in a locked state where all mouse actions are used for measurement. If you want to get back to your layers or crosshair, you release it using a menu command or keyboard shortcut.

Hopefully, I’ll make up my mind soon and release it as a regular feature with 0.9.7. Oh, 0.9.7 will have certain other nifty cool features which will also reflect on the ringce.com website. So stay tuned.
